FREEDOM OF SPEECH

While currently continuously listening to the new single of my most favorite boy band, I also keep myself updated with the reactions people give to this song. Having read tons of comments in youtube, I've got enough inspiration to blog about what I've always been keeping in my mind for long. Let's say 85% of the comments I've read were positive or maybe neutral, that's because they came from the fans who genuinely love the song (I'm one of them, hell yeah). The other 15% were more like direct attacks to the boys. Some called their music shitty, some called them gay, some thought Justin Bieber is better than them and Ed Sheeran, and some other called them another 5 versions of Justin Bieber. Alright, people, hold your thoughts right there, keep them to yourself, or let it out somewhere else that won't negatively affect the other people and their fans. If ones like something or somebody, just let them continue liking it because they're happy that way. Is it really necessary to show your opinions? Even if it is, shouldn't it be more appropriate to show it somewhere else? Come on, not on their channels, not on their pages, not to their private twitters, not in such area where your opinions will hurt so many people. You also like something else or somebody else that the others dislike, so imagine how you'd feel if people say so many extreme negative things about things you really really love. Also, the fans, I don't see how you should start saying bad things to the people who go against what and who you like. I don't see how you should start drama over these tiny things. If you like something or somebody, just keep on supporting them, and ignore the hates. Those not-wise debates by using so many bad words won't help anything. If you are to give critics to each other, make sure they will be constructive.

Okay, here comes to the point I'm dying to make. It's freedom of speech... Everybody has it, everybody is using it, everybody seems to enjoy using it, but I think many are misusing it also. It seems to me that they are taking advantages of the term "freedom of speech" to badmouth about whatever they feel like badmouthing about without giving it enough thoughts. It's like one day, they wake up from a nap feeling pissed by something, and just go straight to let the world know about it mostly through social networks. People these days, they seem to care less about how their little words could actually cause such a big fight. And little do they know that their words could actually cause pain to the others.

Promoting universal peace comes from almost every mouth of ours, but what we're doing is pretty much in different lines of what we want. To the people who started the freedom of speech, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. If I were you, I might be, as for now, filled with disappointments. From what I see, the misuse of freedom of speech has been worse ever since social media and social network has improved. Having said that, I'm not putting the blame on social media and social network tho. I know the intention of improving social media and social network was purely good.

You, readers, may wonder why I blog about this because for sure, this is not gonna make any change. That's right, this is what I want, tho. I just want to let it out on a platform where my entry is not really accessible. Why? Because people won't use their freedom of speech to start a debate here. I just want to embrace this little peaceful, calm quietness I'm having right now. These days, madness is everywhere, and peace and quietness are just so rare.

  1. u're wrong in one thing, this platform is not quiet. haha.. u forgot that there's me here and I'm also the one who adopt this freedom of speech thingy. Hehe.. u know what? Just this article alone, i can talk with u for hours but m trying to keep it short here.

Let's start from the peaceful thing. Badmouth each other. That sucks. I'm totally against this. Why? Shouldn't they have the rights to say anything they want? Yes they do but to a certain extent. Badmouthing is not showing opinion but insulting people. And insulting people is wrong. So yes, I'm with u on this.

Then comes the part I totally disagree. You said why we have to show our opinion when we know that it's gonna hurt the other fans out there? That's called freedom of speech. Ok, it might hurt but who cares? If u get offended just because people show their opinion, then u deserve that. Living in this society nowadays, this matter is very important. Commenting is just a minor issue. Things like this also occur in the workplace where u try to work so hard but it's seen as a tiny things by the others. So the most suitable thing to do is to try not to get offended by it. People just show their opinions so take it as it is.

Will I feel bad when someone say sth extremely bad about someone/something I really like? Yes, I do. Definitely I feel bad, but if people just show their opinion, just let it be. Let's think about it in inverse. What if people say so many awesome or wonderful things about sth u really really hate? Will u feel bad too? Of course u do. It's the same thing. They may feel bad when u say so many good things about 1D while they totally hate them to the core. Imagine someone right now is talking every single great things about being a girl acting girly, won't u feel bad cos u're not one? In general, people feel bad when they prefer sth that other don't.

I totally support it when people just show their opinions and it doesn't matter whether it's on whatever page. As long as they just show their opinions and not try to speak those bad words, it's totally fine. It hurts the fans, yes, but those fans should know how to take things as it is. Don't be too extreme. Keep in mind that just because u comment the good things doesn't mean it won't annoy anyone.

I can write more but I think I should stop here. haha...

    1. aight done reading... and anyways, yeah u have ur points up there, and thank you, for I can also use those points to talk back to you lolz... well, i dunno about the other people but i'm just gonna talk about myself here! Not getting offended, yes, I agree on that! That's what I do too, I usually choose to ignore all those bad comments and still like things/people i like. It's just that in some cases it's too much that it somehow affects how i feel as a fan. But still, I take it as it is... and you mentioned about hearing good things of things I really hate, yeah, I'd feel bad, but why would I listen to all that? why would I read all those compliments posted on the page of sth I really hate? I won't do that, for sure.

The case I'm talking about is that those people go to page things/people they hate, say 1D... and make some negative comments on it that affect the fans' feelings! and let's say they hate to see compliments about 1D, then why would they visit their pages and read all those compliments! What I'm trying to say is, people should just stick to what they like... keep on liking whatever they like, and no hating on other things they dislike!

Showing their opinions, they still can do it... but like i said in my entry, they prolly should do it in some other appropriate areas where it will affect less people's feelings maybe?

    2. I still disagree. Well, u dunno what they think when comment. It's probably that so many people around him are talking too many good things about 1D that he feels so annoyed with it? Or perhaps he hears it over and over again on the radio and he feels annoyed with it? I don't think those who comment bad things really spend their time to read those beautiful comments.

Take me as an example. Am I a fan of 1D? No! JB, no! But I sometimes check the youtube page and check out their new songs and see if they are so good that ppl r crazy about. I never comment though cos I dun usually comment in public but I don't hesitate to comment if I want to. You don't know what's going on in their mind. However, I totally agree with u that there are people who just wanna insult people and that's not good. What I support is when people just wanna show their opinions.

I'm not sure what u think about this matter but if u look at it from a wider perspective, this thing is common in our society. I refer to the fact that people are sensitive when they hear bad comment. Face it! U will hear it from times to times even at workplace. Because of that characteristics, u can see that cambodian people hesitate to criticize. U can see all over the media that they just hesitate to make bad comment even if it's for the sake of improvement. People should be more open minded and know are personal and what are not.

    3. Okay... maybe I just came across too many of those insulting comments, that's y i felt the tension and wanted to write this... I'm not trying to make you agree with me anyways! We both hold different opinions, and yes, I agree.. our opinions should really be shown for the sake of improvements, but it is also a must that enough thought is given to it before letting it out! So doing, misuse of freedom of speech will be cut down as well.. thats what i mean :D
